This week we went on holiday in the far east (of England).
We were staying near the most easterly point of the UK (Lowestoft) in a place called Oulton Broad which is on the border between Norfolk and Suffolk. It has two railway stations—one going to Ipswich, the other to Norwich—providing a perfect base for day trips.
We’ve been to Ipswich, Beccles (the Lido above), Cromer (looking for fossils), Norwich, Sutton Hoo, Saxmundham, and Southwold.
There is too much to fit into a week in photos but have especially enjoyed:
Rewatching La Chimera in volunteer run cinema. There was a power cut before the final epiphany which made the ending all the more devastating.
Walking to Pakefield to see the remnants of an old Pontins. I don’t think I ever went to this one but it felt like going back in time.
Imagining being an Anglo-Saxon king at Sutton Hoo.
The bizarre handmade games on Southwold pier.
A boat trip down (up? along?) the broads.
With the football on at the moment, I thought it would be nice to be in England but sadly Gareth Southgate’s tactics have left fans subdued.
Either way, it feels a totally different country.
Beautiful final photo 🌞
