I visited Gourock Lido and replicated this picture made famous by Martin Parr and Blur. The pool is heated saltwater, almost soupy in its warmth. My favourite thing, though, was the two diving boards.
We went to The Wyllieum beforehand, a museum dedicated to Scotland’s equivalent of Joseph Beuys, George Wyllie. It is situated next to a dock and was full of tourists.
I have no idea what they made of his odd sculptures, they certainly couldn’t understand the Scottish voices in the explanatory videos.
My health club was closed for maintenance, but we were allowed to visited The Western Baths, where everyone speaks like a
character. One thing they do have is an Alasdair Gray mosaic. Apparently, he visited once but the experience irritated his eczema so he never went back.People in Glasgow have been complaining about the shoogliness of the new Subway trains and it was remarkable how much they jump around.
With the sun, it has been nicer to get outside.
There are even tourists visiting Schottland.
Went to Burning House Books to see Simon Murphy interviewed by Ben Kritikos. I am not sure why I went, given that I have been to a few events with Simon before. I’ve even interviewed him! It was useful for me to see where I'm at in terms of my understanding of photography. Simon is a total inspiration to me, as he is to the moderator, Ben Kritikos (
), who lives in Govanhill and has to deal with its contradictions.
